AFRICA CLIMATE WEEK/AFRICA CLIMATE SUMMIT

The opening plenary of the Ministerial Segment of the Africa Climate Summit and Africa Climate Week held yesterday, Monday 4 August 2023 in Nairobi, Kenya, and was marked by an outstanding speech by Kenyan President William Ruto.

The meeting was attended by the Cameroonian delegation, made up of the Minister of Environment, HELE Pierre, who equally led the delegation, the Minister of Transport, NGALLE BIBEHE, the Cameroonian Consul in Nairobi, Dr NAIN Vivian, the Focal Point of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change at the Ministry of ‘ Environment, Timothée KAGONBE, and other relevant experts.

Minister HELE Pierre and two Cameroonian experts then took part in the Ministerial Round Table on the forthcoming COP 28 scheduled to take place in the United Arab Emirates.

The Africa Climate Summit was held at the Kenyatta International Convention Center in Nairobi, and lasted for one hour.

The aim of the meeting was to examine issues relating to preparations for the COP 28 (expectations, challenges to be met and strategies or measures to be proposed), aspects of the forthcoming negotiations and the expected results of the first global balance sheet.

The activities marking the Africa Climate Week and the Africa Climate Summit which were organised back-to-back, continue this Tuesday with a High-Level Session attended by the Heads of State of the member countries of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
