On Wednesday 21 August, the Minister for the Environment, Mr HELE Pierre, received in audience a delegation from Dubai based Planet One Group, a diversified Business house with interest in Carbon Projects. Mr. Arvind JHA, Director and Mr Manoj KUMAR SINGH, Head-Business Development, Planet One Group accompanied by two leaders of Cameroonian NGOs: Dr Gordon AJONINA (CWCS) and Mr Harrison NNOKO (AJESH) were part of the Delegation.

The Planet One Group team came to request a partnership in the form of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Cameroon, which will enable the company to develop Nature Based Carbon sequestration solutions (particularly blue carbon) using mangrove forests. This will have a positive impact on the climate, local communities and associated coastal wetland ecosystems across Cameroon.
The discussions, which lasted over an hour and half, enabled the parties to approach the issue from several angles, so as to guarantee the interests of each stakeholder: the Government through MINEPDED, local community and investors.

The Minister expressed particular concern about the sustainability of the project, as well as the issue of the carbon market, which is still in its infancy in Africa and is being driven primarily by the major polluting countries. He nevertheless welcomed this opportunity for a partnership with multiple benefits. The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding followed this Thursday 22 August 2024.
